YuMuuv Team Annual Wellness Plan
Hey, good YuMuuv friend!
My name is Keitlin, and I am part of the YuMuuv team. Do you want to guide your employees toward a more active lifestyle in the new year? Or are your people already big fans of YuMuuv challenges, and you need a fresh plan to keep them active and healthy – but would like some inspiration first? Don't worry, we've got you! Here is how our own team does it, and the active year we have planned for ourselves.
Table of Contents
The key to an active lifestyle is consistency. A short-term push is not enough to improve your employees' health and wellbeing – you need to involve people throughout the year. That is why we planned the whole year in advance, so we can build more good, health-supporting habits.
1. January: New Year, New Me
Activity: Intensity minutes
Type: Consistency
Target: 10 minutes a day × 21 days out of 31
We have all heard this one. The year begins, people are motivated and ready to give their best – and so are we. But it does not matter how much you train in a single day; the best results come from consistency. A consistency challenge is designed to build a habit, which is why we start the year with one. Our goal is 10 intensity minutes on 21 of January's 31 days.
2. February: Let's Burn Those Buns!
Activity: Calories
Type: Collective
Target: 500,000 kcal together
By now we have a great rhythm and plenty of excitement – the perfect time for a collective challenge. Calories are a great metric for setting fun, unique goals. In Estonia, we celebrate Shrove Tuesday in February, which means eating lots of whipped cream buns. One bun has about 280 calories, so our goal of burning 500,000 calories together is worth about 1,785 buns.
3. March: March Madness
Activity: Steps
Type: Total amount
Target: 10,000 steps every day
The step challenge is probably the easiest of all: go for a walk, collect steps, and your body will thank you. With spring slowly arriving, it is the perfect moment for a step challenge that gets the team moving at least 10,000 steps a day. We hold walking meetings, get fresh air during lunch breaks and take the stairs instead of the elevator – and the steps add up without us even noticing.
4. April: Ultra Challenge – Not So Funny April
Activity: Activity index
Type: Total amount
Target: 80% activity index
In April, we add a twist with the first ultra challenge of the year. We like to challenge ourselves, and this month is the perfect opportunity: by the end of April, we aim to reach 80% on the activity index. In an activity index challenge, each person works toward a daily steps target, a personal calorie target (based on their gender, age, height and weight) and an intensity minutes target. For anyone who finds the goal too hard, we add a manual entry challenge alongside it – for example, ab exercises – so everyone can take part and make an effort.
5. May: May-rathon
Activity: Distance
Type: Consistency
Target: 8 km a day × 21 days out of 31
Summer is approaching, and collecting kilometers is a great way to look after your body. This month's consistency challenge is to walk at least 8 kilometers on at least 21 days.
6. June: Push Through the Summer
Activity: Push-ups
Type: Consistency
Target: 50 push-ups a day × 26 days out of 30
Summer is vacation time, when many people travel, discover new places and are constantly on the move. This month, we focus on strength instead. Push-ups work several muscle groups at once, and they can be done anywhere – on the beach, at an interesting sight or out in nature. The goal is at least 50 push-ups a day on at least 26 days. It is fun to share photos of the most unusual push-up spots with the team in the YuMuuv chat.
7. July: Water Changes Everything!
Activity: Water drinking
Type: Consistency
Target: 2 liters a day × 25 days out of 31
Water is the main component of the human body and vital for the whole organism, yet many people drink too little. This month, we focus on water drinking to build good habits across the team. The challenge is simple: drink at least 2 liters of water on at least 25 days of the month. As a consistency challenge, it helps make regular drinking a habit – with more energy as the reward.
8. August: Ultra Challenge – Athletic August
Activity: Activity index
Type: Total amount
Target: 90% activity index
The second ultra challenge of the year. The activity index goal rises by 10 percentage points from April, but by now the team has become more and more active, so we are confident everyone can reach a strong 90%. Just like in April, we add a manual entry challenge for anyone who finds the goal too hard – this time, for example, at least 50 squats a day for two weeks.
9. September: Let's Walk Around Estonia!
Activity: Distance
Type: Collective
Target: 1,900 km together
Another fun collective challenge, this time focused on kilometers. We like to tie distance goals to interesting destinations – this time, we aim to cover 1,900 kilometers as a team by the end of the month.
10. October: Mindful Month
Activity: Mindfulness
Type: Consistency
Target: 20 minutes for yourself every day
October 10 is World Mental Health Day, so this month we pay special attention to mental health. We try to set aside at least 20 minutes each day for ourselves and something we enjoy – reading a book, meditating, walking in the fresh air. Taking time for yourself is essential for looking after your mind.
11. November: MOVEvember
Activity: Steps
Type: Consistency
Target: 10,000 steps a day × 25 days out of 30
The end of the year is in sight – the last chance to build healthy habits for the year ahead. A great time for the good old step challenge, this time with a consistency goal: 10,000 steps on at least 25 days of the month.
12. December: Ultra Challenge – A December to Remember
Activity: Activity index
Type: Total amount
Target: 100% activity index
The last ultra challenge of the year – one final effort before we wrap up and look back. Each ultra challenge has raised the activity index goal by 10 percentage points, so in December the goal is 100%. It may sound tough, but after such an active year we are ready for one last push before everyone can crown themselves champions. As in the other ultra months, we add a two-week manual entry challenge so that everyone can take part – for example, a 5-minute plank every day.
