How Health Carousel Powers Its Olympics Move Challenge With YuMuuv

Background: one place to track movement

Each summer, Health Carousel holds its Summer Olympics with three challenge types: Move, Give, which tracks donations and volunteer hours, and Learning, which tracks professional development.

For the Move Challenge, the organizers needed a platform that could track activity easily. They found YuMuuv, it met their needs, and the team has kept it for a second year. The challenge is open to employees in both offices, remote staff and the nurses Health Carousel works with.

The program: teams, fair scoring and a team goal

Teams with their own names. Colleagues form teams of eight to ten people and pick their own team names, which are set up as teams in YuMuuv. Watching those names, some of them quite silly, climb the leaderboard was a favorite part of both years.

Fair scoring. Teams were ranked on their average, so runners and walkers could compete on equal terms. A shared team goal of 10,000 steps gave every team a milestone to work toward, even those out of the running for first place.

More than steps. Participants tracked exercise and steps, and this year water tracking was added to the challenge. People followed both their team standings and their own progress on the leaderboard.

Celebration. Results from all three challenges were tallied for first, second and third place overall. Winners received medals and prizes at a ceremony during the company picnic, which brought everyone together.

Results: easy to launch, easy to use

For Breana, who ran the challenge for the first time this year, getting started was straightforward. The platform was intuitive from the admin side, and participants found the app easy to use and easy to get into.

Because the challenge runs once a year, logging back in could have been a hurdle. It was not: the return to the app felt smooth. When questions came up, YuMuuv support was helpful and fast, sorting out one issue within a day.

Everybody had a good experience with the app. It was easy to use, it was easy to get into.

Looking ahead

Health Carousel plans to use YuMuuv again next summer. Breana is also exploring whether more of the Summer Olympics could run in YuMuuv, so that all the challenges live in one place.

It seemed pretty seamless to deal with, especially the first time coming in.
