How Blue Sky Bank Scaled Its Wellness Program with YuMuuv

Background

Blue Sky Bank has experienced steady growth, expanding from three to sixteen locations in just over a decade. Alongside this expansion came a commitment to employee experience, which led to the creation of the Be Well Program: a structured wellness initiative designed to boost physical and mental health, foster connection, and promote work-life balance.

As part of this initiative, Emily Curtis, Executive Director of Experience, recognized that their manual setup using SharePoint and Excel for challenge tracking was limiting engagement. In search of a scalable, interactive platform, Blue Sky Bank implemented YuMuuv.

A Digital Leap Forward

YuMuuv brought structure and visibility to Blue Sky’s wellness calendar. Step tracking went from spreadsheets to seamless syncing via wearables, leading to:

  • Higher Participation: Manual challenges averaged 30% engagement; post-YuMuuv, numbers climbed significantly.
  • Real-Time Competition: The step challenge, run twice a year, became a bank-wide favorite due to live leaderboards and easy device integration.

Other challenges included hydration, nutrition, sleep, and even kindness—all focused on holistic well-being.

Tailored Engagement & Local Impact

Blue Sky Bank paired in-app challenges with community involvement:

  • Staff earned points for participating in local 5K races.
  • Completion earned bonus PTO (4 hours) and boosted brand presence.
  • Points earned fed into an annual leaderboard, where top performers earned Blue Sky swag or tiered Amazon gift cards.

Emily’s team exported monthly reports and maintained a public-facing leaderboard on their intranet, reinforcing transparency and excitement.

Challenge Types & Rewards Structure

Challenge Themes:

  • January: Choose Your Challenge
  • February: Stretching / Yoga
  • March: Bring Your Lunch
  • April: Acts of Kindness
  • May: Steps
  • June: Workplace Safety
  • July: Water / Hydration
  • August: Sleep / Rest
  • September: Nutrition
  • October: Steps
  • November: Volunteering

Step Challenge Rewards:

  • 300,000+ steps: $50 Amazon card
  • 225,000+ steps: $25 Amazon card
  • Top 3 overall steppers: $100 Amazon card each

Other challenges contributed toward annual point totals, redeemable for branded apparel and gear.

Opportunities & Feedback

While the YuMuuv app streamlined most processes, Blue Sky continues to:

  • Export data to track cumulative points per associate
  • Maintain external resources via internal intranet pages

Suggestions for improvement:

  • Ability to track external events (like 5Ks) directly in-app
  • In-app hub for resources and health tips per challenge
  • Boost adoption of chat features, which some employees are hesitant to use

Despite these small limitations, Emily praised the platform:

“Support is super responsive, and we love the custom graphics turnaround time. The app has made our most successful challenge—steps—even better.”

Looking Ahead

With plans to continue and refine its challenge calendar, Blue Sky Bank is well on its way to embedding wellness into its culture year-round. Through the YuMuuv platform, the bank turned a well-intentioned wellness effort into a scalable, data-driven, and community-connected success.
